Printable migraine calendar
Short answer
Pick a month and print. Each day gets a box: write the pain score (0 to 10) on headache days, an M on days you took medicine for it, and a P for your period if that's relevant. At the end of the month, count the headache days and the medicine days. Those two numbers are what a doctor usually asks for first.

Calendar or diary?
A calendar shows the pattern at a glance: which days, how many, clusters around your period or weekends. It has no room for detail. If your doctor wants start and end times, symptoms and doses, use the one-month headache diary instead, or both: the calendar on the fridge, the diary for the appointment.
How to mark each day
- Headache day: write the worst pain score that day, 0 to 10. Same scale every time.
- Medicine: add an M on any day you took something for a headache. Two different medicines? M2.
- Period: a P on those days, if it's relevant to you.
- No headache: leave it blank or write 0, so you know you didn't forget the day.
The two numbers to count
Headache days and medicine days. A day counts once however long the headache lasted. Why these two: the international classification of headache disorders describes chronic migraine by headache days per month, and the NHS says to see a GP if your attacks are more than once a week. How many migraine days a month is chronic? explains the definitions. Only a doctor can tell you what your numbers mean.
Prefer your phone?
Easing, our headache diary app for iPhone, fills in a calendar like this from the attacks you log and counts the days for you. It's coming soon to the App Store; until then, this page does the job.
